 PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Responsible for planning, development and implementation of  Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) and  Battery Energy Storage System Projects (Senior Engineer: VRE&BESS) or Thermal Projects (Senior Engineer: Thermal) in line with the NamPower’s technical, operational and strategic requirements.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREA:

• Manages the complete life cycle of the projects
• Investigates and sources grant funding for project feasibility and preparations
• Provides project leadership to the project team
• Compiles, in collaboration with the relevant staff, the stakeholder communication and marketing plans for the project(s)
• Supports the development of energy transition and decarbonisation strategies for the Generation portfolio
• Leads technical governance and engineering assurance activities for strategic generation projects
• Leads technical/commercial negotiations with EPC contractors and all service providers.
• Coordinates multidisciplinary design reviews to ensure technical integrity, operability, maintainability and compliance with applicable standards and project requirements
• Manages procurement in accordance with the relevant policies
• Mentors and coach young Engineers as part of NamPower ’s capacity building and transfer of knowledge objectives

 QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES :

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering (National Qualifications Framework Level 8).
• Registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia as a Professional Engineer.
• A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in project management of engineering/infrastructure projects, of which three (3) years should have been at supervisory level.
• Code B Driver’s Licence.

OR

• Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering (National Qualifications Framework Level 7)
• Registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia as an Incorporated Engineer.
• A minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant experience in project management of engineering/infrastructure projects, of which five (5) years should have been at supervisory level.
• Code B Driver’s Licence.

 SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

• Computer literacy: Ms Word, Ms PowerPoint, Ms Excel, SAP and CAD or similar drawing applications
• Financial & Commercial modelling skills
• Project management & Technical skills
• Managing project teams in a matrix structure
• Risk Management and Strategic Planning abilities
• Knowledge of FIDIC contracts and tender procedures
• Relevant regulatory acts, such as the Public Procurement act, PPP Act, Electricity Act, Tax Act, Water Act and other legislation
